Milwaukee Brewers: Should we worry about Corbin Burnes in 2023?
Corbin Burnes (39) Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Corbin Burnes has made two starts this season so far. He has a 9.64 ERA, 9.1 innings pitched, six strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.71. These numbers are eye-opening, as fans expected him to be on a hot start after his arbitration fiasco with the team. But is it time to worry?

Reasons Not to Worry

We are only six games into the season. Burnes has only made two starts, and one of those starts was in March at Wrigley Field. Corbin is known for having a slow start to his seasons, as most starting pitchers do. However, he will be on the right track as he figures out the season’s rhythm and mechanics. Also, with Burnes issues with the team and a very good chance we don’t see him in a Brewers uniform after 2024, he will want to prove he can still pitch at a high level and get paid.

Reasons to Worry

Brewers fans are used to seeing Burnes shutdown hitters and quickly take control of the game. Right now, we are still waiting to see that from Corbin. The fans are most worried about last year. Burnes struggled toward the end of the year and it looks to be bleeding into this year. Another thing to point out is that the conflict between the Brewers and Burnes might have cost him his confidence. He is making mistakes we haven’t seen from him in years, and fans are worried.

The Brewers still have only played six games. It’s very early, and the Brewers are red hot. Corbin Burnes has struggled, but is a veteran and Cy Young Award winner. He has been in this position before and knows how to overcome any slump. But right now, it is also fair to worry about his struggles.
