Watch: Kyle Petty highlights the factor that makes Kyle Larson a true champion after 0.001s Kansas win
Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Kyle Larson created history last week at Kansas Speedway, after he won the AdventHealth 400 with a 0.001 second margin to second place finisher Chris Beuscher.  The No:5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 aggressively moved the No:17 RFK Racing Ford Mustang to kill his momentum and edge pass him before the finish line.

Ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, in his regular post-race analysis seemed very impressed how the race has played out on Sunday and how good was the drive from Kyle Larson. The eight-time Cup race winner took the time to share his views of the race despite being busy with his annual charity ride and being on the road for it.

During his analysis, Petty pointed out that Larson sending it in the final laps, by ruining very close to the wall, as he always does, was very impressive. He asserted that this shows how committed the 2021 Cup Series champion is, when he is racing and pointed out that it’s one of the main factors that made him a champion.

Now, I want you to go back and look at that. There couldn’t be more than two inches between he and the wall and two inches between he and Chris Buescher. But he stuffs it in there. That’s why he has a championship trophy. He’s committed. He was committed all the way to the [checkered] line, and he won by that much. I’m telling you — so much strategy, so much racing — you had it all yesterday. I still haven’t caught my breath and I gotta go get on a motorcycle. Kyle Petty said.

Kyle Larson admitted the race was a crazy experience

Despite being fast, Larson wasn’t sure if he would have been able pass the RFK racer for the win at the end as he got loose in the center. It was crazy finish and arguably on of the best races in the Next-Gen era, if not the best.

Wasn’t quite sure if we were going to make it out the other side. I got super loose in the center, and then we’re just trying to — I’m trying not to get too far ahead of him to where he can side draft and then I was just trying to kill his run. It was crazy. Kyle Larson said.

NASCAR fans are hoping that there would be more of such crazy races in the future with the Next-Gen cars. This would give opportunities to drivers such as Kyle Larson to showcase their true racing prowess and clutch form.
