Heat have set their sights on Rockets' Christian Wood?

The Heat are 30-17 on the season and sit at the top of the Eastern Conference.

While Miami obviously experienced some potentially-violent early season bumps in the road, things have stabilized dramatically since then.

And now, it feels like the Heat are a very legitimate threat to win the East in 2022.

In that spirit, it should come as no surprise that the front office is actively exploring ways to improve the roster heading into the part of the season that really matters most.

According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, Miami has set its sights on Christian Wood of the Houston Rockets.

“The 26-year-old has been subject to interest around the league, and sources say the Miami Heat have been one of the more persistent teams in engaging with Houston on the versatile big man,” he wrote.

“But barring a blow-me-away offer, Wood should remain in Houston past the deadline, sources tell The Athletic. He’s averaging 17.5 points and a career-best 10.3 rebounds per game.”

Wood would be a fantastic addition to the Heat’s roster. He would complement the existing lineup well, and Bam Adebayo would go a long way in covering up some of his defensive deficiencies.

That said, time will tell if they’ll actually be able to pull this move off.

If not, they’re also still one of three teams in the running for another prominent superstar.

Worst-case scenario, even if Miami can’t get anything done before February’s NBA trade deadline, this group still has what it takes to contend for a title.

Will this be the year they ultimately right the wrong from two Finals ago? Time will tell.
