Sixers’ Mac McClung Wins G League Player Of The Week

Philadelphia 76ers two-way player Mac McClung has been named the NBA G League player of the week, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.

This week, McClung earned the honors by averaging 29 points, four assists, and two steals per game while leading the Sixers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, to a 3-0 record over the past week.

McClung has had quite the string of success lately. When he went to Salt Lake City, Utah, a couple of weeks back, he shined in the NBA’s Rising Stars Game.

Then, the Sixers’ two-way guard became the first player in franchise history to win the Dunk Contest.

While the exhaustion from All-Star Weekend caught up to McClung and affected his performance in his first couple of games back with the Blue Coats, some rest went a long way for the young veteran.

McClung’s Player of the Week honors doesn’t come as a surprise. All season long, he’s been a standout for the Blue Coats. During the Showcase Cup run earlier in the year, McClung averaged 17 points, six assists, and five rebounds across 18 games.

As a full-time starter in the regular season, McClung’s put up 19 points per game, five assists per game, and three rebounds per game. He’s also improved his shooting, draining 56 percent of his field goals and knocking down 48 percent of his threes on five attempts per game.

The young guard mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he hopes to get his chance at the next level after spending a majority of his rookie and sophomore seasons in the G League. While his opportunity hasn't come just yet, McClung continues to shine at the G League level, remaining on the Sixers' radar.
