Michigan football recruiting hasn’t quite taken off under Sherrone Moore, but you can feel the momentum building. That’s especially true now that the Wolverines are trending with top-50 2025 recruit Nate Marshall.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive lineman out of Oak Park, Illinois, was on campus this weekend for the spring game. Michigan football was already trending in the right direction but on Sunday, Steve Wiltfong of On3.com dropped an expert projection — a Fong Bomb — for Marshall to commit to the Wolverines.

This is significant because Marshall is ranked 36th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s the No. 1 in the state of Illinois and the No. 4 defensive lineman.

Wilftong’s prediction carries a lot of weight. He’s arguably the top recruiting expert in the industry. However, Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, another trusted source for the Wolverines, also put in a crystal ball projection on Sunday night for the Wolverines to land Marshall. Webb used a confidence level of 7 on a scale of 1-10.

Marshall has upcoming official visits scheduled for Miami and Alabama but was just on campus at Michigan for the third time. Plus, I’m sure there’s an official visit in the works.

What’s the commitment timeline?

It doesn’t feel like a commitment is coming soon but you never really know. Marshall could want to wait and take official visits, as most recruits do, before making a decision. Maybe Michigan impressed him to the point that he knows what he’s doing to do.

Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito tweeted the “boom” meme out and that’s usually something an assistant coach would do when teasing a commitment.

It could be referencing something else, but with a pair of expert projections and that post from the Michigan D-line coach, I think it’s safe to say the Wolverines feel good about where they stand with Marshall.

Hopefully, the only thing that’s left is the announcement.
